There are many variables that factor into overall system performance. This is provided as a general self-help guide to get you the best experience with your online resources.
- Make note of what you’re doing when slowness occurs. Look for trends of slowness using a particular program (like Word), doing a particular function (like mail merge) and/or a specific time (10am and 4pm). If you notice a pattern, you can work with VOS Engineering and they can review the VOS side of the equation.
- Run TaskMgr and sort by processor column. When slowness occurs, see what programs are taking the most processor. It is possible that your anti-virus is doing a system scan or something is running in the background that could be slowing your computer.
- Speakeasy.net has a speed test that can give very general information about current Internet conditions for you. This is NOT a network diagnostic tool! When the system is running well, run the speed test and note the results. When the system is running slow, rerun the speed test and compare the results. If you see significant differences in speed, then performance may be related to Internet congestion at your provider.
In general, the more specific information you can provide about any time of problem, the easier it will be to troubleshoot.
