VOS is not set to disconnect on inactivity with the only exception being that systems should be logged off at the end of each day.
If you are getting disconnected when you leave your system unattended, there are a number of setting to check on your system that may be causing the problem:
Verify that Power Management features are turned OFF, or set to Maximum Performance. Power Management can be found on the Control Panel in Windows or corresponding location on Linux or Mac. Make the appropriate changes, save the settings and reboot your system as necessary.
Turn hibernate functionality OFF. Hibernate is a complete power down of the system which effectively disconnects all network connections including VOS. Systems that use hibernate as their only power down function typically suffer from degraded performance because the system resources are never reset. Best practice is to reset (Power off - turn on) at least once a day to give your system a chance to "cleanup" and run optimally.
Turn sleep functionality OFF. Verify that all power management settings in Windows for "Plugged In" are set to Maximum Performance and nothing is set to sleep. As with option #2, sleep will disconnected all network connections including VOS and can lead to degraded system performance.
Even with Maximum Performance set in Power Management, there may be Advanced Settings that need to be disabled or changed. In Power Management with Maximum Performance settings applied, click on Advanced Settings. Expand each category and verify that no options are set to sleep, hibernate, or any setting that would indicate a "low power" or "power down" state. Click OK to save settings and reboot as necessary for your computer.
In extreme cases, you may need to verify that your hardware devices in Device Manager (Windows). This can be found by right click on My Computer and selecting "Manage". Open Device Manager, then expand the Network Adapters section. Right click and select Properties on each item. Select the "Power Management" tab and remove the checkmark from "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Repeat this procedure for all network adapters.
If you happen to get disconnected from VOS due to any break in Internet connectivity, wait about 90 seconds and then attempt to re-open your VOS programs. Usually this will reconnect you to the place where you left off- like right in the middle of a document or composing an email, etc. If it does not reopen to where you left off, typically it will "recover" your document(s) that are auto-saved by Microsoft® Office programs and email that you were composing will be saved in the Drafts folder in Outlook.
